Musicmaster amp12/23/2023 ![]() ![]() Made in the U.S.A! Add $10 for push on connectors for a Blues Jr.™ amp. A great projecttransformer that is compact and powerful and produces a more reasonable B+ voltage making it suitable for many cathode biased, single-endedand EL84 based circuits. 2" by 2-1/2" mounting centers means it willfit a Champ™ or Princeton™ chassis. This makes it a great bolt-inupgrade for the Blues Jr.™ (same color code leads, too) where a little higher B+ voltage and better voltage regulation are desiredfor more headroom or where 6L6/E元4 power tubes are to be installed for a more powerful amp. It also has a pair of brown leads rated 20V at 100mA. This is sufficient for a pair of E元4s in fixed bias or a pair of 6L6s in cathode bias or a single ended amp usinga big 6550/KT88 power tube - plus 3 or 4 preamp tubes. It will support a power supply rated approximatel圓65V DC at 150mA DC. It does not support a tube rectifier. It is rated 120V to 280V at 200mA with a 6.3V center-tapped heater winding rated 4A. When Fender released the Musicmaster Bass amp in 1970, they wanted to design something for bass players playing. TP24 power transformer requires a full-wave-bridge type solid-state rectifier. History has a funny way of repeating itself. While tweed Champs and blackface Princetons are commanding prices of over a grand on Ebay, you can grab the little Musicmaster Bass for around $250, and those with the energy and desire to take on a search could very well turn one up in a pawn shop or used music shop for less.Be careful! If this is the TP24 sold by allen amps. ![]() It should be noted here that, as is often the case, what is good for a guitar is also good for harp, and the Musicmaster Bass amp really shines with the sounds of a little tin sandwich being pumped into it through a decent microphone. This Fender Musicmaster from the Silverface era is up for eBay auction and is the same model as our BBer Danes single 12AX7 and twin 6AQ5s (6005s). If cranked, the clean becomes a fabulous dirty crunch with plenty of room to be heard in a smaller combo situation. ![]() The amp can provide excellent clean tones at lower volumes. ![]() This second (.02♟) capacitor is therefore always on. The other one is soldered to the conatct where the wire from the volume pot goes to and the other side is soldered to GND, too. One is soldered to the middle contact of the tone pot and goes to GND (housing). Many players prefer to swap out the CTS speaker for something more to their liking, but the stock piece still delivers decent sound and is desired by some. The original MusiMaster wiring has two capacitors. Nothing fancy here, but it delivers in the sound department. There is a simple slider on/off switch, one knob for volume, one for tone. Laid out simply, the amp produces twelve watts with either 6v6 or 6aq5 preamp tubes. The Musicmaster Bass amp is a great way to get good tone from an honest vintage Fender tube amp without needing to take out a bank loan. I agree with the others that there is a high pass filter in the tone circuit. It did improve the overall sound and bass response somewhat but not vastly. Gradually the news spread that the Musicmaster Bass, while doing little for bass amplification, could flat scorch with a guitar, a situation which was something of a mirror of Fender’s initial bass amp offering, the Bassman. A long while back I put a 12' Eminence 12447 8 ohm speaker into my 1975/76 Fender Music Master bass amp. Somewhere along the line, however, a guitarist was hard up for something to power his six string, and a guitar got plugged into one of these things. Created as a practice amplifier for bedroom work, the amp really doesn’t do much at all for bass, with many bassists feeling that above 4 on the volume knob there really just isn’t much to it. One particular piece of equipment that illustrates this point well is Fender’s Musicmaster Bass amplifier. It had a single 12' Fender speaker cone, 3 tubes and a 12w power rating. It was a simple amplifier with one channel and just two controls - volume and tone. As is often the case, those low-dollar pieces of past years that got passed over so readily have become items of value to players these days. The Musicmaster bass amplifier was introduced in 1970, as a companion to the Fender Musicmaster bass Fender's entry level bass gear. In the 70s Fender produced a line of budget music gear under the “Musicmaster” name. Looking for real vintage tube gear but not blessed with unlimited funds? There may not be a free tweed Champ or blackface Super Reverb sitting on ever corner, but there are still deals to be had straight from Leo himself. ![]()
